Book recap this summer:

A few good ole paper books mixed with some kindle reads and quite a few audiobooks.

Audiobooks really are my jam.

Just a plug for Libby/ Hoopla which are free resources for audiobooks.

Here have been some of my favorites this summer:

Take Back Your Brain by Kara Loewentheil

The Anatomy of a Calling by Lissa Rankin

The Seat of the Soul by Gary Sukav

Thinking in Bets by Annie Duke

Strong Like Water by Aundi Kolber

Community by Peter Block

The Perfection Trap by Thomas Curran

The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker

13 Things Mentally Strong Women Don’t Do by Amy Morin

On the Docket:

The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt

Unbroken by MaryCatherine McDonald

Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert

A few common threads in my last few reads:

  • The importance of community: building one, the feeling of belonging, and the importance of cultivating meaningful relationships.
  • Realizing that as we evolve and grow, it’s been important for me to look at my own personal strengths and weaknesses but also at what I have chosen to cultivate and whether that has served me, my community or any sort of higher purpose.

I turned 40 in May. There’s been a sense of change brewing in me for a bit now… I am wrangling with a bit of purpose vs ego and trying to find meaning in it all.

I am also trying to be more aware of intention and attention—and the impacts of both. I have realized that during many of the times I have felt like I’m pushing a boulder uphill, perhaps my intention and/or attention have been misplaced.

So, with intention— I took off this past week celebrating the last week of summer before school starts for our kids.

Hats off to all the parents who survived another summer ????

Heidi
