What do you desire?
What is one thing you’ve been yearning to do? To have? To be?
Or maybe it’s the one thing you want to stop doing, stop having, or stop being?
Pause: really, what is it?
When I started this work a few years ago: I wanted to stop feeling overwhelmed all the damn time. I wanted to stop feeling anxious about the little things that became ruminative loops that grew into giants. I wanted to stop being annoyed… with my patients, job, kids, and family.
These weren’t little things that I wanted. They were huge… and at times, felt completely consumptive.
So, I started breaking things down, step by step, and I realized what pieces I had control over. I was blaming a lot of circumstances in my life as the obvious reasons I was annoyed and overwhelmed. They were obvious to me and to those around me who completed validated my feelings of overwhelm and annoyance.
With coaching, I started to uncover that my thinking was truly clouding the picture. I was doing many things that were often reinforcing the ruminative loops and I was digging myself deeper into the overwhelm. Once I was able to step back with an objective lens, I was able to craft better boundaries and let go of paths I no longer felt aligned with, gaining clarity and time! With this, I started to prioritize my own mental and physical health… getting more in tune with what I desired and intentionally creating my desired results.
Is my life perfect? No! There will always be circumstances that come up that bring up challenges and grief and sadness. This rock wall was a good comparison for me: there is joy and discovery in the climb, but sadness and frustration in the fall. My daughter was so excited with each new step higher and higher and so disappointed when she plummeted down. But there was growth with both steps and missteps!
There will always be negative emotions in life and should be. But my capacity to recognize when I am feeling overwhelmed (or an array of many other feelings I had bottled before) and be able to pause, ask for help, and reprioritize is drastically different. Coaching gave me freedom and the capacity to pivot with so much more peace of mind. It can do the same for you, too.
