Asking for Help/ Saying No: two small but critical pieces of the puzzle.

Last week, we talked about asking for help and some of the universal challenges in that. I talked about looking at your thoughts around asking for help and working through the coaching model to look at the thoughts and feelings that come up, and then your subsequent actions and results.

And if the results aren’t what you want—try looking back at what thoughts are creating that cascade

Saying no often drums up similar thoughts and the subsequent feelings for most of us: dread, fear, anxiety, guilty, etc. These can really derail us from what we want, especially when we are acting on auto-pilot.

For anyone wanting a little more on the Power of No, I was just on as a guest on She Thrives with Ashley.
Check it out here.

While I touched on some of this in the podcast, I’ve been reflecting more on some of the common threads contributing to burnout in the lives of many successful women I’ve coached.

Does any of this ring true for you?

  • You’re told you can have it all. (Alright, let’s go.)
  • You go after it: study/ work hard. Climb your way up. (Keep it going!)
  • You have a successful career. (Yay!)
  • Maybe you get married if that’s what you want. Maybe you’re still searching for the right one…
  • Maybe you have kids if that’s what you want. Maybe you’re still trying… and this is a source of sadness, frustration, or loneliness.

Maybe this isn’t exactly in chronological order, but after several years there tends to be a common trend:

You give and you give… you sacrifice.

And suddenly, all your time & energy seem like they are just taken from you. (Well, shit.)

And you start to wonder: is this it?  Maybe I’m doing this wrong… maybe something is wrong with me?

Somewhere along the line, while you were caring for and about so many other people, perhaps you stopped caring for yourself in a meaningful way… and somehow the external demands and pressure seem to keep piling on.

And that simply isn’t sustainable. If you give yourself a moment to pause, you know that.

Perhaps at the forefront of your disappointment, you are no longer able to make the impact you wanted… But I’m here to help you change that.I’m here to tell you that YOU can be impactful and be up to BIG things… AND take care of yourself. In fact, I think that’s the best way to ensure that you can make the impact you want.

But you can’t make an impact when you’re burned out. You can’t make big impacts when YOU aren’t well cared for. Asking for help and confidently saying no are two small but crucial pieces of that puzzle… but there are more pieces.

So, what do I do? Whether you are a leader, executive, nurse, doctor, lawyer, etc— I help you make your biggest impact, without sacrificing yourself and your happiness. I help you piece together your puzzle. I help you create sustainable impact.

My new program Sustainable Impact will be six-months of 1:1 coaching.

If you are like many of my clients, you are successful (and dare I say brilliant) and yet you feel like you are:

  • Drowning in endless to-do lists
  • Constantly running on empty
  • Guilt-ridden for not being “enough” in any role
  • Starting to resent always putting others first
  • Exhausted from juggling work and family demands
  • Unfulfilled despite outward success
  • Feeling invisible or under-appreciated
  • Stressed about dropping balls and disappointing others
  • Longing for a moment of peace
  • Losing touch with personal passions and dreams

In 6 months you will have the tools, skillset, and practice to feel:

  • Energized and well-rested
  • Confident in setting boundaries
  • Well cared for, with regular self-care
  • Inspired by meaningful work and family time (defined by and for you!)
  • Impactful without burning out
  • Centered and in control

I will have very limited spots to ensure you get the time and support you need to create sustainable change.
